Take your learners to a sit down restaurant for this budgeting & tipping lesson. Learners will describe the importance of setting and following a budget, calculate tip based on a bill amount, determine needs vs wants from various menu items, purchase a meal within a set budget - identifying dollar values and define the purpose of tax & tip (gratuity).

Terms of Use

Tipping Guides: Tipping Guide Version #1 comes with pre-set bill amounts, tip calculations and total amount owed. Bill amounts range from $12-$22. Tipping Guide Version #2 included step-by-step instructions on how to calculate tip from a Samsung, iPhone and calculator. It also provides a "tip" to use Google Calculator. These are intended to be brought with you to your CBI!

Before CBI: Prior to your CBI, learners will be completing a menu simulation activity. Three versions are provided for this activity. Version #1 includes options for learners to count dollar amounts using visual dollar bills and allows learners to answers questions in a cut/paste or circle format. Version #2 includes written dollar amounts with visual supports. Version #3 menu simulation mimics a menu seen at a restaurant.

After: After your CBI, learners will be participating in a reflection. Version #1 has cut/paste and circle response options. Version #2 and #3 prompt learners to engage and discuss questions based on tax, tip and budget. Version #2 allows learners to match vocabulary words to images whereas Version #3 prompts learners to openly write a definition for tax, tip & budget. Each version requires learners to reflect on bill total, tip and total amount spent.
